As an Afro Latina, I know what it’s like to stand in rooms where you don't see yourself reflected, to earn a seat and still wonder if you belong. That lived experience is not the backdrop to my work. It is the work.
A Few InfluencesI'm Cuban-Mexican, and I spent four years of my childhood in Mexico. I was the outsider in every classroom and those years gave me a deep love of Mexican culture, fluency in the language down to its colloquialisms, and a closeness to family that became as natural as breathing. Mexico City isn't just my favorite place to visit. Mexico is where part of me lives.Since losing my parents, I've made it intentional to know my aunts and uncles more deeply. To learn their stories, their memories, the pieces of culture they carry. That's my inheritance and I'm grasping it closely.Zumba is my joy and yes, outside is even better.Rosalia, Juan Gabriel, Bad Bunny and Marc Anthony dominate my play list while I cook. I'm convinced movement makes the food taste better.Former Peace Corps Volunteer — Senegal was an experience that shaped me in ways I'm still discovering.
